The beginners' course takes you through developing balance on rollerskis, the basics of both skating and classic technique, and skills to safely slow down and stop.
The skating part of the day takes you through the essential elements of skating 'gears' – skate 1, skate 2 and skate 3 as well as stopping and turning. For classic skiing, you will learn the key techniques of diagonal stride, kick double pole and double poling.
Led by Snowsport England licenced coaches, we work hard to pace the flow of information, teach the correct body positions for rollerski techniques, and offer a great balance of drills and exercises throughout the day.
For beginners, we assume zero previous knowledge or ski experience, but having a reasonable level of fitness and balance will help.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with barbara@rollerski.co.uk.
After the course, beginners can potentially do a Level 2 course, join a training group or participate with local cross-country ski clubs and holidays.
Our Level 2 courses focus on refining technique, where we share more exercises for developing technique on skating and classic roller skis. These courses are suitable for recreational and racing skiers interested in advancing technically
The course runs from 10.00-16.00 and you can start to get the equipment from 09.50. Sandwiches and snacks are included.
We’ll meet in the main car park by the 'rollerski van.’ We will base ourselves at the track side shelter, located parallel to the top loop. There you will be able to securely store belongings for the day.
Before you come -
Please bring gloves with you, and a filled in Safety Questionnaire (if you don't have a printer don't worry, we have spares).
