Get into rollerskiing this season Coming up - Sunday 29nd August - 1-day rollerski course, Dorney Lake
Our rollerski instruction helps you get up to speed on rollerskis, and skiing with good technique that is easily transferrable onto snow. Although you need have no interest in skiing on snow, most rollerskiers have some kind of snow-based interest or aim. This may range from preparation for a ski holiday to a full-scale Arctic expedition. Rollerskiing best replicates the feeling of track cross-country skiing, but it's also really useful training for ski touring, Telemark and Alpine skiing, helping with balance, endurance and strength. Once you have learnt the basics of rollerskiing, we encourage you to join our rollerski club in London. Some of our keenest skiers take part in cross-country ski marathons, biathlon (skiing & shooting), winter triathon (skiing, running and mountain biking on snow) and classic Telemark racing (which requires downhill skills and good skate skiing technique). There are opportunities for beginners to take part in all of these challenges and we always have a good number of skiers taking part in the Engadin Ski Marathon, one of the easiest races for well prepared beginners to undertake. Our main courses take place in Hyde Park, London, and our 1-day courses are held at Dorney Lake, near Windsor (J7 of the M4). We do our club training in Hyde Park and Richmond Park, SW London. In addition to this we also arrange private instruction, for individuals and groups at these and various other venues around London.
SKI PREPARATION Rollerskiing is the best preparation for cross-country skiing, if you can't get onto snow. The technique, balance and fitness required for rollerskiing translates very well onto snow. For this reason we introduce rollerskiing to many people interested in cross-country skiing - holidays, ski marathon races, winter triathlon or biathlon. But it's not just for skiing - there is no better way to keep fit and get a low impact, full body, outdoor workout.
CLASSES We do 2-hr group classes in Hyde Park and Richmond Park in London, and Dorney Lake near Windsor. These offer a chance to give rollerskiing a go for the first time, or have a refresher session. Evening sessions take place on Wednesdays in Hyde Park. To book a class, go to www.rollerski.co.uk/class.html
COURSES Choose between a 1-day course at Dorney Lake near Windsor or Hillingdon, or one of our 4-week courses in Hyde Park. Practically all of our courses are suitable for beginners - our occasional Level 2 courses are geared to more advanced skiers. We recommend our courses as the best way to achieve rapid improvement in skills. For a full listing of courses, see www.rollerski.co.uk/events.html
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION FOR INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS We also arrange private rollerski sessions for individuals and groups. This is a good way to fit rollerskiing into your own schedule, and we offer sessions on weekdays and at the weekend. In 2008 we did sessions for office teambuilding groups, the British military and a couple of schools. In July 2008 we taught rollerskiing to the young rowers attending the Eton Rowing Courses, to give them an idea of the cross-country skiing cross-training used by Olympic rowers. For more information and to book, see www.rollerski.co.uk/instructprivate.html
