Now's a great time to get ready for cross-country skiing. We have beginner sessions and private lessons happening in Hyde Park, Dorney Lake, Redbridge and Ascot with our expert team of instructors.

Our main London base is Hyde Park on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings and the Olympic Park on Sundays, but we also can arrange private and group lessons at various other venues. Outside of London, we run sessions at Dorney Lake, as well as Redbridge Cycle Circuit in Essex and Ascot racecourse.

If you want to prepare for cross-country skiing, roller skiing is the best way to build the technique, balance and fitness required for this great sport. Our instructors are enthusiastic about the sport, and will get you skiing with good technique and good humour.

What's roller skiing?

Roller skiing is essentially cross-country skiing on wheels, and uses the same technique and muscles as skiing on snow and provides a very similar workout. Our instructors help you get up to speed on rollerskis, with good technique that is easily transferrable onto snow (whether you do or not). A lot of our roller skiers have some kind of snow-based challenge, which could be anything from ski holidays to a full-scale Arctic expedition. Roller skiing is also good training for ski touring, Telemark and Alpine skiing as it helps with balance, endurance and strength.

Once you have learnt the basics of roller skiing, we encourage you to join our rollerski club in London, or our Team Dorney + Redbridge . Many of our regular skiers take part in cross-country ski marathons, biathlon (skiing & shooting), winter triathon (skiing, running and mountain biking on snow) and classic Telemark racing (which requires downhill skills and good skate skiing technique). There are opportunities for beginners to take part in all of these challenges and we always have a good number of skiers taking part in the Engadin Ski Marathon, one of the easiest races for well prepared beginners to undertake.

Our main courses take place in Hyde Park, London, and our 1-day courses are held at Dorney Lake, near Windsor (J7 of the M4) and at Redbridge Cycle Circuit (Essex). In addition to this we also arrange private instruction, for individuals and groups at these and various other venues around London.

SKI PREPARATION

Roller skiing is the best preparation for cross-country skiing, if you can't get onto snow. The technique, balance and fitness required for rollerskiing translates very well onto snow. For this reason we introduce rollerskiing to many people interested in cross-country skiing - holidays, ski marathon races, winter triathlon or biathlon. We also run our own trips onto snow, see here.

But it's not just for skiing - there is no better way to keep fit and get a low impact, full body, outdoor workout.

CLASSES

We do 2-hr group classes in Hyde Park, Dorney Lake near Windsor and Redbridge. These offer a chance to give rollerskiing a go for the first time, or have a refresher session.

COURSES

Choose between a 1-day course at Dorney Lake near Windsor or Redbridge, or one of our 5-week courses in Hyde Park. Practically all of our Hyde Park courses are suitable for beginners, and skiers generally join our regular club to progress further. Dorney and Redbridge courses have beginners' and advanced courses which are geared to more advanced skiers.
