HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And hopefully one of good skiing and rollerskiing, wherever you happen to be.

Now's a good time for setting new goals and challenges, and we're getting focused on the new season of rollerskiing.  If you want to improve your fitness, technique or prepare for a holiday or ski marathon, our programme will hopefully help.

Below you'll find details of our instruction programme, ski trips coming up, and information about the sport in the UK and beyond.  We hope you can get involved..

HOCHFILZEN TRIP - MORE SPACE ON MARATHON TRIP

Alan Eason has added several more spaces to the Hochfilzen Ski Marathon trip in February.  He has put together an excellent team, including former World Cup biathlete Peter Moysey, and two of his best Australian instructors.  The week includes skiing and instruction on classic and skating skis, with the chance to take part in the Koasalauf ski marathon at the end of the week.

Alan is also running a week specialising in classic technique later in February.  You can find out more about both these trips here - http://rollerski.co.uk/cross.html

'CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IS SICK'

Don't worry, this is a good thing.  Not my description, but that of Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton on Twitter.  See - http://yfrog.com/h2422nj  'Sick', according to the Online Slang Dictionary means 'great', 'cool' or 'awesome'.

Prince Charles and Camilla have also been cross-country skiing, see - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11930169  The Duchess, whose language harks back to an earlier age, thought it was 'wicked'.

  ROLLERSKI WALES

Roller skiing could be just about to take off in Wales.  Outdoor activity company, Capital Adventure Wales, led by skier Roger Heslop, is in the final stages of putting together all the equipment needed to provide lessons.  You can find out more about them here - http://rollerski.co.uk/nr088.html

ANDREW MUSGRAVE, BOA SKIER OF THE YEAR 2011

Just before Christmas, Andrew Musgrave was announced as British Olympic Association Skier of the Year.  19-year old Andrew, who was among the first group of British cross-country skiers at the Olympics since 1994, recorded the best ever British cross-country skiing performance (measured as percentage behind the winner).  See - http://www.bnds.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=303:first-cross-country-skier-to-receive-boa-award&catid=2:news&Itemid=4

LRNSC 2011

If you live in the London region, it's worth keeping an eye on the London Region Nordic Ski Club's programme in 2011.  The club is under new management with chairman Chris Richards, the club's former racing director, taking the helm.  The LRNSC has more members than any other cross-country ski club in the UK, and has a particularly strong summer rollerski racing programme, which is suitable for all.

You can find out more about Chris and the club here - http://www.londonnordic.org.uk/christopher-richards/

  TOUR DE SKI

The FIS Tour de Ski is taking place this week - this is a great event to watch, and finishes with an epic up-hill cross-country ski race on Sunday 9th Jan.  Here's one of the events so far -
