Sam Cairns Rollerski Masterclass

This September we are running a very special masterclass in Hyde Park with up-and-coming GB biathlete, Sam Cairns. Sam is part of a new generation of civilian athletes progressing in the sport. He's been living between Norway and Scoland lately, training with some of the world's best biathletes, cross-country skiers and coaches.

The class will be in skating technique and will include drills and exercises used by Sam and his fellow biathletes. There will be group exercises and Sam will help with individual technique.

After the session, we will go to the local pub for some 'Nordic talking'. All proceeds of the class will go to Sam, to support him over the coming season, training and racing. Britain's civilian biathletes are not well funded and any support goes a long way. This will be a great chance to meet one of GB's stars of tomorrow, and get an insight into what is involved in this great sport.

Cost:	£25 (you can borrow equipment from the van if required)
For:	Proficient skating rollerskiers with an interest in biathlon. Not for beginners. Focus will be on technique, fun and games. No shooting unfortunately, it is not encoruaged in the Royal Parks!

Sam Cairns is a product of the Cairngorm Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club in Scotland, where he has learnt the sport under the guidance of 6 times Winter Olympian, Mike Dixon. Alongside Robert Sircus, Scott Dixon and Calum Irvine, Sam represented GB at Junior level and hopes to progress further in the coming seasons.

In 2014 Sam was fastest GB Youth at the British Championships in three events - 10k Biathlon Sprint, 15k Biathlon Individual and 7.5k Cross-Country Mass Start - competing against the country's best young biathletes. Still only 19, earlier this year he competed in both the World Junior Biathlon Championships and the World Junior Cross-Country Ski Championships.

We are keen to get him down to London for his interesting insights into skiing and training as a biathlete. And equally we want to support our country's young athletes. Biathlon is an expensive sport and, unlike the Army biathletes who are paid as soliders, the civilian biathletes need to raise funds themselves, and this is great chance to do so.
