Bristol-Bath rollerski tour, Saturday 17 May 2008

Each year we run a rollerski tour from Bristol to Bath along the 13 mile Sustrans cycle track which connects the two cities. This year's tour takes place on Saturday 17th May and all sufficiently fit and experienced rollerskiers are welcome to join us.

Plan -

  • we will meet at and set off from Bristol Temple Meads station at 10.45;
  • if you come by car, we suggest you park it at the car park behind Bath Spa station, and take the 10.25 train from Bath, which arrives in Bristol at 10.42;
  • we will stop for lunch at the Bitton Station cafe, near the tourist railway.

You will need -

  • suitable clothing. It rains more in Bristol than in the South East, so be prepared;
  • water and food. You need to keep hydrated and keep up your energy levels;
  • mobile phone. We will stop frequently and not leave anyone behind, but take a phone and programme in the number of one of our leaders before we set off just in case;
  • gloves, cycle helmet, possibly knee pads;
  • change of socks, possibly some plasters for blisters.

Course information -

  • the track is 13 miles long and the first half is uphill. It follows the route of a disused railway track, so the gradients are not very steep, but it is a steady climb out of town;
  • the surface of the tarmac is not brilliant for the first few miles, but it is fine to rollerski on. It gets much smoother once you get out of the suburbs of Bristol;
  • classic and skating rollerskiing are both fine;
  • the area is not one of outstanding natural beauty, but there are various points of interest along the way. For more course info, see the link below.

Rollerski hire -

  • the trip is free, but if you don't have your own rollerskis, you can hire them from us to use on the trip - simply fill out the booking form below (£15) -
