Rollerski Spring 2007

Welcome to our spring programme! Possibly the best time of the year to rollerski, with longer days and cool, crisp mornings, evening classes and our Bristol-Bath tour.

We welcome new skiers, and most of our courses are geared to complete beginners. We also maintain and build on snow skills learnt on holiday and ski races. We had a great winter, with over 30 rollerski beginners at Dorney Lake in January alone, and some very good feedback.

For non-beginners, Alan Eason will be around from mid-March to mid-May and running Level 2 courses and club sessions. (He'll be back from FIS World Champs in Japan, and heads off to Australia for the summer).

Whatever session you're doing, you will be in sociable company and learning new skills. We believe there's no more complete way to keep fit and in ski condition.

Courses

Our courses are the best way to start, and to improve technically. Our structured 4-week programme in Hyde Park will take you through the basics of the classic or skating technique. Come April we will be adding evening courses. Our 1-day Dorney courses continue to be very popular.

Our Level 2 courses are aimed at improvers. The first of these will be Sunday 25th March at Dorney Lake. These courses are aimed at improving skills, and so as long as you're fairly happy with basics, you will find these very useful.

Classes

Our class sessions continue to take place in Hyde Park, Richmond Park and Dorney lake near Windsor. The aim of these sessions is to give beginners a taster of rollerskiing, and allow intermediates to get some tuition.

Bristol-Bath challenge

Do you really fancy pushing yourself on rollerskis? If the answer's yes, you can join us for a 15 mile rollerski between Bristol and Bath on 21st April. This isn't a race, but ski with others of a similar pace and we'll all meet up at halfway for lunch and towards the end for some pub refreshment! Last year we had about 40 on this tour and it's a good chance to meet other rollerskiers, ski marathon-ers, army racers and club skiers.

You can join us for free, and hire rollerskis if required. See here.

Our Shop

Re-worked and improved for 2007, you can find the best deals on rollerskis, boots and poles in our - now online - shop. Our packages are exceptionally good value, and we encourage skiers to get their own skis, to train between lessons and make the most of our instruction.

Take a look at our shop here.

Group instruction

A key aim for us this spring is to offer courses to schools, summer schemes and other groups. We have run very successful bespoke sessions for the Honourable Artillery Company, Tiffin School and various hen parties. For young people, rollerskiing is an incredibly beneficial, good fun and low impact form of exercise which can be learnt very quickly. It is good cross-training for kids doing strength / endurance sports, and particularly relevant for schools with CCFs. Contact us for more information.

Club

Our rollerski club goes from strength to strength and provides a weekly training session, with a mixture of training and technique. Members of the club have been training for various challenges of their own, including a ski holidays and races.

Sessions include interval training, technique, speed, plyometrics, orienteering and distance.

For more information on the club and joining, see here.

Summer rollerski racing

For fun-runners and serious racers alike, the rollerski race series provides an opportunity to push yourself, and compete against the UK's best skiers. Races take place in London, Durham, Lancaster, Huntly and Aviemore. Any rollerskis can be used, but the most competitive racers will use fast skis for the most exciting races. Click here for the race calendar.

Venues

Our venues remain Hyde Park and Dorney Lake near Windsor. We have a presence in Richmond Park, and do private instruction at all of these locations, as well as at Battersea Park, Dulwich Park, Eelmoor Driving Circuit near

Aldershot and various other venues can also be arranged. See maps here.

Ski marathons

it was great to see so many people take part in ski marathons in 2007. Over 130 Brits entered the Engadin Skimarathon, and we also prepared skiers the Vasaloppet, Birkebeiner, Skarverennet, Koenig Ludwig Lauf and the British Champs. To plan doing a ski marathon, take a look at our ski marathon calendar.

Skiing on snow

We're teaming up with Waymark again to offer a greater variety of instruction-led holidays for the 2007/8 season. More information will follow with the release of the Waymark brochure in August this year, but look out for the return of our popular New Year trip to Norway among others.
